The human rights situation in Afghanistan, particularly the human rights situation of women and girls has continued to deteriorate in 2023.
Despite various challenges including the complex security situation in Afghanistan, shrinking civic space and restrictions on access to information, we have been able to consistently and continuously document human rights violations.
On 15th August 2021, the Taliban returned to power and as one of their decisions, they declared the annulment of most previous laws, including the laws that provided specific protection to the children.

This report has been prepared to examine and analyse the human rights situation in Afghanistan, with a focus on significant events related to the violation of civil and political rights and the status of women’s human rights in the first six months of 2023.
This report aims to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of the performance of the Taliban’s judicial system and the state of access to justice for Afghan citizens, presenting comprehensive data and information regarding the changes in the judicial and legal framework in Afghanistan from August 15, 2021, to June 2023.
