This report has been prepared to examine and analyse the human rights situation in Afghanistan, with a focus on significant events related to the violation of civil and political rights and the status of women’s human rights in the first six months of 2023.
This report aims to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of the performance of the Taliban’s judicial system and the state of access to justice for Afghan citizens, presenting comprehensive data and information regarding the changes in the judicial and legal framework in Afghanistan from August 15, 2021, to June 2023.
Violation of the right to liberty and security of person is one of the main challenges and concerns in Afghanistan under the de facto rule of Taliban. These detentions have led to an environment of terror and fear among Afghan citizens.
Hundreds of citizens all over Afghanistan particularly in Kandahar, Panjshir, Nangrahar and Sar-e-pol provinces have been killed unlawfully, in targeted attacks and under suspicious circumstances in the period of August 2021-November 2022
In the absence of legal mechanisms to protect human rights, there has been an increase in human rights violations in the past year.
